Acne is an extremely common occurrence in adolescents and young adults, especially as teenagers reach puberty. Acne affects about 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 25, although it can also occur outside of these age brackets. Acne can be a very distressing and embarrassing condition that affects the face, neck, chest, shoulders and back. Through our acne treatment, we aim to alleviate the embarrassment associated with acne and help you regain your confidence.
We all have sebaceous glands present in the hair follicle which produce a natural oil, called sebum, keeping our skin and hair naturally moisturised. During puberty, skin cells in the follicle shed and mix with the sebum causing a blockage in the follicle. As more sebum is produced, the follicle swells up creating an ideal environment for a bacteria in the skin, called propionibacterium acnes, to multiply and cause inflammation. It is the growth of this bacteria and the resulting inflammation that causes acne lesions such as blackheads, pimples, nodules and, cysts. In severe cases, these lesions can rupture, resulting in acne scarring.
At West London Dermatology Centre we have a team of six Dermatologists led by Professor Tony Chu, a world renowned dermatology expert who has published many clinical papers on acne including work with the highly effective Regenlite (NLite) laser. As a result, we can offer expert advice and a range of acne treatment options from skincare creams to laser treatment.
Depending on the type and scale of acne you have, our dermatologists will recommend treatment based on your initial consultation. It is essential that acne sufferers seek medical advice and consequent treatment when the acne is inflamed to prevent permanent scarring.

Frequently asked questions
WHAT IS REGENLITE?
Regnalite (NLite) is an FDA approved laser treatment used to improve the look and feel of acne. Our Medical Director and world renowned dermatology expert, Professor Chu, has published many clinical studies on this type of laser treatment, demonstrating that NLite is comparable, if not superior to existing treatments for acne. With no side effects and with faster and longer lasting results it was demonstrated that 87% of patients achieved significant improvements.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
By delivering a specific wavelength of laser light into the skin, Regnalite targets both the bacteria and reduces inflammation by stimulating the skin’s immune system. This treatment is also hugely beneficial to the production of collagen which helps reduce acne scarring and improves the look and feel of the skin.
IS IT PAINFUL?
The laser may feel warm as it passes over the skin, but it is a low level laser and, therefore, painless.
IS IT SAFE?
Yes, Regenlite is completely safe. Many clinical studies have been published proving both safety and efficiency. Your consultation will take place with one of our leading dermatologists and your treatments will be executed by a fully trained and qualified laser practitioner.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
To treat acne effectively, three treatments are recommended, one every two weeks. We can then assess as to whether any additional treatments would be beneficial. Results can normally be seen within a few days of treatment.
